There was a time when I thought my story would always be defined by what happened to me.
Like many survivors, I carried pain that no one could see. I questioned my worth. I wondered if anyone would ever understand. There were days when it felt easier to stay silent than to relive the hurt.
But something changed.
I realized I had a choice.
I could allow my past to keep writing my future, or I could take everything I had lived through and use it to help someone else.
That choice became the beginning of Riders Against Domestic Violence.
RADV wasn’t built because my life had been easy. It was built because I knew what it felt like to need someone to believe me. I knew what it felt like to search for hope when hope seemed impossible to find.
Every survivor carries a story.
Some stories are filled with heartbreak.
Some are filled with fear.
But none of them have to end there.
Our past may shape us, but it does not have to define us.
Today, every article we write, every support group we build, every resource we share, and every survivor we encourage is proof that healing is possible. We cannot erase what happened, but we can choose what comes next.
I’ve learned that strength isn’t found in pretending the pain never existed.
Strength is found in refusing to let that pain have the final word.
The experiences that once made me feel powerless have become the reason I fight for others every single day.
If my story reminds one survivor that they are not alone…
If one person finds the courage to ask for help…
If one family finds hope instead of giving up…
Then every difficult mile has been worth the ride.
Your past is one chapter of your life.
It is not the entire book.
No matter where you are today, don’t believe the lie that your best days are behind you.
Healing takes time.
Hope takes courage.
But every step forward is a victory.
I turned my pain into purpose.
You can turn yours into a new beginning.
Because your story is still being written.
