ESCAPE
RADV Article: What If Tomorrow Never Comes?

There is a question that has stayed with me for years:

What if tomorrow never comes?

We all live as though there will always be another sunrise, another chance to make things right, another opportunity to tell someone we love them or to finally make the change we’ve been putting off.

But life doesn’t come with guarantees.

As survivors, many of us know this better than most. We know how quickly life can change. One phone call, one violent incident, one bad decision, or one missed opportunity can change the course of a lifetime.

That’s why today matters.

If you’re living in abuse, don’t keep telling yourself you’ll leave “someday.” Build your safety plan. Reach out to someone you trust. Contact an advocate. Learn about your options. Every small step you take today can become the reason you have a tomorrow.

If you’re the parent of children growing up in an abusive home, remember that they are watching. They are learning what love, respect, and relationships look like from the adults around them. The decision you make today could change the rest of their lives.

If you’ve been carrying guilt, shame, or anger for years, ask yourself if those burdens are worth carrying for another day. Healing begins the moment you decide you’re no longer going to let your past control your future.

And if there’s someone you’ve been meaning to forgive, encourage, or simply tell that you care about them, don’t wait.

Tomorrow isn’t promised.

As the founder of Riders Against Domestic Violence, I’ve spoken with survivors who wish they had acted sooner. I’ve also spoken with families who would give anything for one more conversation with someone they lost.

Those stories remind me that our time is precious.

Don’t wait to become the person God created you to be.

Don’t wait to stand up for yourself.

Don’t wait to tell your children they’re loved.

Don’t wait to ask for help.

Don’t wait to offer hope to someone who feels alone.

Every day is another opportunity to choose courage over fear, healing over hurt, and hope over despair.

The truth is, none of us knows if tomorrow will come.

But we do know we have today.

So make today count.

Take the first step.

Make the phone call.

Say the prayer.

Offer forgiveness.

Choose safety.

Choose hope.

Choose life.

Because if tomorrow never comes, let today be remembered as the day you chose a different path.

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”Psalm 90:12
