What if your life wasn’t over?
What if the abuse wasn’t the final chapter?
What if, instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” you asked yourself a different question:
“If I were to rebuild myself after my abuse… what would I look like?”
Would you be stronger?
Would you finally set healthy boundaries without feeling guilty?
Would you speak with confidence instead of fear?
Would you stop apologizing for simply existing?
Would you wake up without wondering if today will bring another argument, another insult, or another reason to question your worth?
Maybe rebuilding doesn’t mean becoming the person you were before.
Maybe it means becoming someone you never had the opportunity to be.
Abuse has a way of convincing us that we are broken beyond repair. It tells us we are too damaged, too old, too scared, or too far gone to begin again.
But survivors know something that abuse never understands.
We rebuild.
Sometimes we rebuild one decision at a time.
Sometimes one therapy session at a time.
One prayer.
One safe night.
One healthy friendship.
One boundary.
One small victory after another.
A house isn’t rebuilt by staring at the ruins. It begins when someone picks up the first brick.
Healing works the same way.
So take a moment today and picture the person you want to become.
Not the person your abuser expected you to be.
Not the person fear created.
The person you choose to become.
Maybe they smile more.
Maybe they laugh again.
Maybe they ride, travel, volunteer, create, mentor, or simply enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee without anxiety.
Whatever you see…
Start building toward that person today.
You don’t have to finish the entire journey today.
You only have to lay the next brick.
At RADV, we believe survivors are more than what happened to them. They are builders. They are dreamers. They are fighters. They are living proof that hope can rise from the hardest places.
So we’ll leave you with one final question.
If you could rebuild yourself after your abuse… what would you become?
Your answer may be the blueprint for the rest of your life.
