Some names became headlines. Most never did.
Some stories were shared across the country. Others were only known by a handful of family members and close friends. But every single life mattered.
Today, we pause to remember those whose lives were taken because of abuse.
They were mothers and fathers.
Sons and daughters.
Brothers and sisters.
Friends, neighbors, coworkers, and fellow riders.
They had dreams, hopes, favorite songs, places they loved, and people who loved them. They deserved safety. They deserved kindness. They deserved the chance to grow old surrounded by people who cared for them.
Instead, abuse stole that opportunity.
At Riders Against Domestic Violence (RADV), we often focus on helping those who are still searching for a way out. We work to build bridges to resources, encouragement, and hope. But we never want to forget those who never had the opportunity to make that journey.
Their lives matter.
Their stories matter.
Their memories matter.
We also remember the families left behind—the parents who still wait for one more phone call, the children who grow up without a mother or father, the siblings who carry unanswered questions, and the friends who wonder if there was something they could have done.
Abuse leaves scars that reach far beyond one person.
Our promise is that these lives will not be forgotten.
Every awareness ride, every conversation, every support group, every article, and every survivor we help is another way of saying:
Your life mattered.
We cannot change the past, but we can honor it by working toward a future where fewer families experience this heartbreaking loss.

You are not weak.
You are not invisible.
You are not alone.
There are people who want to help you find safety before your story becomes another memorial.
Today we remember those who lost their lives.
Tomorrow, we continue the fight for those who are still here.
May we honor every life by refusing to look away, by believing survivors, and by building a world where abuse no longer has the final word.
