Keeping Positive in a Negative World

Every day it seems like we’re surrounded by bad news. Turn on the television, scroll through social media, or read the headlines, and it’s easy to believe the world has forgotten how to hope.

For survivors of domestic violence, that negativity can feel even heavier.

You may be fighting through trauma, navigating the legal system, rebuilding your finances, or simply trying to make it through another day without looking over your shoulder. It can feel like the world is constantly reminding you of everything that has gone wrong.

But here’s something I want you to remember:

The world doesn’t get to decide your outlook. You do.

Being positive doesn’t mean pretending life is perfect. It doesn’t mean ignoring the pain you’ve experienced or acting like everything is okay.

It means believing that today’s struggle doesn’t have to become tomorrow’s identity.

It means celebrating the small victories:

  • Getting out of bed when it was hard.
  • Making that counseling appointment.
  • Laughing for the first time in weeks.
  • Taking a walk.
  • Saying “no” to someone who doesn’t respect your boundaries.
  • Believing that healing is still possible.

Those moments matter.

Negativity spreads quickly, but hope spreads too. One encouraging word can change someone’s day. One act of kindness can remind another survivor that they are not alone. One person choosing compassion instead of criticism can start a ripple effect that reaches farther than they ever imagined.

At RADV, we believe healing begins with hope.

We believe your past does not define your future.

We believe there is always another mile ahead.

So today, choose to look for something good. It may be as simple as a sunrise, the smile of a stranger, a child’s laughter, or the quiet peace that comes from knowing you’ve survived another day.

The world may be filled with negativity.

You don’t have to add to it.

Be the light.
Be the encouragement.
Be the reason someone believes tomorrow can be better than today.

Your story isn’t over.

Keep riding forward.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”Romans 12:21

Riders Against Domestic Violence (RADV) exists to educate, encourage, and connect survivors with trusted resources because no one should have to ride the road to healing alone.
